Levantado do chão, de José Saramago: o latifúndio e a saga dos Mau-Tempo

Neste ano, temos a honra de celebrar os quarenta anos de publicação do romance Levantado do chão, de José Saramago. No início da carreira de romancista, o escritor português procurou denunciar todos os tipos de abuso, de exploração e violência. Em pleno século XXI, os conflitos no campo permanecem, o trabalho infantil não foi totalmente erradicado, os salários das mulheres são inferiores aos dos homens e tantos outros problemas sociais, tão bem retratados no romance, continuam a desafiar os governos e a todos os cidadãos com responsabilidade social. A saga de miséria dos Mau-Tempo é a de todos os  homens e mulheres que escreveram com suor e sangue os seus nomes na terra, uma saga de luta e sofrimento que está registrada nos livros da humanidade e na memória dos séculos.

This year, we have the honor of celebrating the forty years of publication of the novel Raised from the Ground by José Saramago. On his debut as a novelist, the Portuguese writer sought to denounce all types of abuse, exploitation and violence. In the 21st century, conflicts in the countryside remain, child labor has not been totally eradicated, women´s wages are lower than men´s and so many other social problems, so well portrayed in the novel, continue to challenge governments and  all citizens with social responsibility. The Mau-Tempo saga of scarcity is that of all men and women who wrote their names on the ground with sweat and blood, a saga of struggle and suffering that is recorded in the books of humanity and in the memory of the centuries.
