Reescrita e paródia em José Saramago: as personagens femininas de O evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo

O Romance O evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo (1991), do escritor português José Saramago, consiste na reescrita paródica dos quatro evangelhos bíblicos que narram a vida de Jesus Cristo – desde a anunciação até a ressurreição. Paródia e ironia exercem papel importante nessa obra por reformularem sem alterar radicalmente fatos bíblicos. As personagens femininas mais próximas a Jesus são sua mãe Maria e a pecadora Maria de Magdala. Elas são essenciais em sua vida em momentos distintos da narrativa. Ao serem parodiadas, as personagens Maria e Maria de Magdala perdem atributos de misticismo e sacralidade e ganham novas particularidades, que lhes conferem humanidade. A comparação entre o romance e as passagens bíblicas têm como objetivo ressaltar quais os aspectos responsáveis pela transformação das imagens das personagens. Os aspectos envolvem castidade, complexidade da maternidade e renúncia e leva à discussão acerca da sexualidade feminina.

The novel O Evangelho Segundo Jesus Cristo (1991) by the Portuguese writer José Saramago consists of a parodic rewriting of the four biblical gospels that tell the life of Jesus Christ – from the annunciation until the resurrection. In this novel, parody and irony have the vital role of reformulating without radically changing biblical facts. The female characters closer to Jesus Christ are his mother, Mary, and the sinner Mary of Magdala. They are crucial in his life at distinct moments of the plot. When being parodied, Mary and Mary of Magdala lose mystical and holy traits and receive new features that provide them with humanity.”The comparison between the novel and the biblical passages aims to highlight the aspects responsible for transforming the characters’ images. Those aspects involve chastity, the complexity of motherhood and resignation, and guide discussions about female sexuality.
